For the first time in her 48 rockin’ years, the Zadge did not spend Christmas with her family. She just couldn’t deal with the hassle, and the cost, and the inevitable post-flying head cold that comes with flying back East twice in one month for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The Zadge was a little worried that she’d regret the decision to stay put and end up a lonely, sad sack over the holidays. But guess what? She had a great holiday!
The Zadge’s holidays entailed a lot of entertaining and a lot of this:
There was an attempt to have some Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire (in an oven). Emphasis on attempt.
See, the Hazz invited the Zadge to spend Christmas Eve with her family, as well as some other friends from the Top Secret Day Job, and the Zadge volunteered to make Moomskers’ Twice-Baked Potatoes, Ina Garten’s Spinach Gratin (yeah, that was low-fat!) and a Roasted Maple Brussels Sprouts with Pancetta and Chestnuts dish she found in House Beautiful. The recipe called for roasted chestnuts. Here’s what the Zadge’s ‘nuts looked like after roasting:
Yes, all but four of them were moldy and rotten. Dagnamit. But the Zadge forged ahead with the recipe anyway and it turned out quite delish. Here’s the recipe for those of you who are interested, although the Zadge recommends omitting the rotten, moldy chestnuts.
The highlight of the Zadge’s Christmas Eve was spending time with the Baby Hazzes, who were excitedly awaiting the arrival of Santa and Rudolph:
The Zadge’s holiday also included several sleep overs with Griswald, as his dad Ross from Friends was doing some construction on his house. Griswald hungerly eying his new Christmas Kong Wubba before pounching on it:
The Zadge spent the snowy Christmas day curled up on the couch with the dogs, a roaring fire, eating Moomskers phenomenal Christmas Breakfast Bread, watching movies. One of them was “Just Go With It” starring her best gal pal, Jennifer Aniston, and Adam Sandler. The Zadge knows there are two camps when it comes to Adam Sandler, but she is firmly in the I-Love-Adam camp.
