So the transformation of the Zadge’s 1896 garage into the Babe Cave/Chart House/Girlz Clubhouse was supposed to take a quick month. The relatively simple project started on June 17. That’s four freakin’ months ago, Nation! The Zadge’s total kitchen renovation was completed faster than that.
But here we are, October 22, 2012 and the Babe Cave is finally DONE!!! And the Zadge loves it! She hangs out there in the evenings, strumming Blue Lena, sipping her vodka tonics and watching the hounds shed yellow dog hair all over the rug and furniture.
Remember the before?
Drum roll please.
The Zadge gives you The Chart House:
Here’s the view from the entrance through the french doors in the backyard:

Another view:
The old overhead garage door was replaced with vintage style carriage doors that open to the alley:

The Zadge opted to furnish the Babe Cave in a mid-century modern/rustic Western style:
She kept the original ladder built in 1896 up to the hay loft, using it to display some of her Western photographs:

Of course, she had to include a tribute to her very famous boyfriend:
The Zadge strung her collection of vintage photographs from wall to wall:

And hung her new friend, Joe the Steer Skull, above the couch:
The loft was originally built to house the hay for the horses, but is now designed with the kids (Lizzie, the Fin, the Baby Hazzes, the Zadge) in mind:
An antique window installed in place of the former hay loft opening:
The Zadge’s vintage camera and Ball Jar collection on display on the shelf where the loft floor used to be:
Newspaper origami string lights gifted to the Zadge by the Sundance Kid provide a starry starry night:
And as the Zadge enjoys her new space, she fondly thinks of her dad, Charts, smiling down on her from the starry sky.

Wow! You did an amazing job! It should be in a home design magazine.
What amazes me is that none of this is my style or taste, yet it looks great and I love it!!
Oh! No question, this is definitely the pièce de résistance to your most lovely home! Bravo!
–>It looks amazing. I love everything about it but I did get an odd sense of being afraid of heights with the photos from the loft towards the opening in the railing. I would be banned from going up there after a few drinks.
You know I love it all, but the first thing I noticed was the Keef poster! Perfect.
Gorgeous!!! Finnie will love his new hangout…
How relieved you must be to finally have your Chart House renovation complete! It looks fabulous.
Wonderful, wonderful a very hangoutable place.
Love the barrel/tribute to your dad.
It is all so very nice.
Incredibly gorgeous and worth every minute of those 4 long months. Dang it’s so inviting! Now enjoy it! I’ve learned in the past to always multiply by 2 and add one to every contractor’s timeline.
It’s awesome! I’m sure a lot of good times will be had in that house.
Love it!
Adorable!
Very nice.
Where’s the Miller Lite fridge?
Wow, it is just too cool! I cannot believe how great it turned out, I know it was a long time coming, but so worth it! Has Lizzie seen it yet?
You need a telescope for the loft now.
It’s charming and so very Zadge.
Mother’s instinct: you need a gate up there.
You know a gate would actually fit into the theme if you made it look like a ranch gate…..it’d be cool.
That’s freakin’ awesome! Exposed brick walls – AMAZING! Antique ladder – FANTASTIC! It looks great (worth the wait no doubt).
I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! Can’t wait to have more drinks in the Babe Cave!!
Bitchin! Great job (as if I had any doubts). It’s the perfect place for me and the bullies to sneak away to. If you hear any beer drinkin’ and heavy panting going on out there, pay no attention. So so cool. Congratulations!
Love it!
GeeeeeeeeeeeeeeOR-GEE-US.
The Babe Cave renovation so needs to be featured in a magazine. Seriously.
